A little extra weight can have serious consequences for your pet’s health
With the abundance of pet foods available these days, you’d be forgiven for feeling a little confused when it comes to selecting a diet for your furry friend.
Though many of the containers and descriptions may look largely similar, it is important that you feed your pet a food that’s specifically suitable for their age and lifestyle to avoid causing health problems for them.
Which Variety of Food is Right for Your Pet?
Many pet food brands offer ‘puppy,’ ‘kitten’ or ‘junior’ varieties – this is because young pets have plenty of energy to explore and play around and therefore need a very different type of diet to older animals. ‘Adult’ food will see a pet through most of the middle years of their life, and may then need to progress to a ‘senior’ variety to reflect their changing needs as they grow older.
It is important that your pet does not consume too many or too few calories, or the wrong type of food for their lifestyle. Many of our nurses have completed courses on pet nutrition and will be more than happy to advise you on the best diet for your pet.
In addition, we offer complimentary clinics for overweight pets, where we will advise you on a change of diet and lifestyle regime to bring your pet back to a healthy weight.
